XML - Expanding Communications
with Web Technology
As most of you know, web technology can be used for internal communication as well as on the Internet. In fact you can use your browser to read files on your own machine without being connected to any network.
HTML (hypertext markup language)
You may have seen the term HTML which are ÒtagsÓ which are attached to words to tell your browser how to display them. MS Office now produces HTML documents almost as easily as Text. So you can generate documents which any browser on any platform can read anywhere. Netscape Communicator, which you can down load free from NetscapeÕs site, will create email which has the appearance of web pages including links to files.
XML (extensible markup language)
With the development of a new web language called XML, your web pages can also act as a middle man between different databases and other applications. The XML tags actually convey content, meaning or use. You can define the meaning of a tag. A tag

So talk with your intranet/web people, if you are lucky enough to have someone on board. Tell them you heard that you can link image files, PowerPoint files, desktop publishing files with your project databases, using something called XML and when can you expect it.
